Progress towards in-situ traceability and digitalization of temperature measurements

Autonomous control systems rely on input from sensors, so it is crucial that the sensor validated to ensure ‘right’ and measurements are traceable International System of Units. The measurement temperature widespread, its reliable key maximising product quality, optimising efficiency, reducing waste minimizing emissions such as CO2 other harmful pollutants. Degradation sensors in harsh environments high temperature, contamination, vibration ionising radiation causes a progressive loss accuracy not apparent. Here we describe some new developments overcome problem ‘calibration drift’, including self-validating thermocouples embedded phase-change cells which self-calibrate situ by means built-in reference practical primary thermometers Johnson noise thermometer measure directly do suffer calibration drift. All these will provide assurance an essential part digitalisation output always ‘right’, well providing ‘points truth’ network. Some progress calibrations make them available end-users via website and/or Application Programming Interface also described.
